“For their rock is not like our Rock.”
Deuteronomy 32:31 (NKJV)
This is one of those times when you have to see the writing and not just hear it to get the full meaning. What is being said is that the things that others build their lives on are not like our foundation. Our foundation, as Christians, is or should be the big r, Rock. While, those who do not build their life on Him build their life on little r, rocks.
These rocks are not always the same. Some people build their lives on themselves, others, or wealth. These rocks are not stable and supporting like our Rock. Our Rock is unbelievably supporting, always there, and does not crumble. He never lets us down, and will remain ever faithful to those who love and believe in Him.
“No one is holy like the Lord; for there is none besides You, nor is there any rock like our God.”
1 Samuel 2:2 (NKJV)
The Lord is constantly referred to as the Rock. The Rock, which we should build our life on. Because there is no rock like our God, we should build our life on Him, our unwavering foundation.
This reminds me of “The Three Little Pigs.” If we build our “house” out of straw or sticks it can be shaken so very easily. But if you build your “house” out of brick then it cannot be shaken. He is more supporting and protecting than anything or person.
Building our lives on anything other than Him will eventually crumble. Only depending on yourself will only take you so far. Yes, there may be people who are very successful by only depending on themselves, but if they do not build their life on Him, eventually it will catch up to them, whether it is in this life on Earth or after. If you build your life on others, they will eventually let you down, because they are human, they are not perfect, as we are not perfect. No one is perfect like our God. Also, many build their lives on wealth, whether that is getting money or having money. Money will not support you in all aspects of life and will eventually let you down.
The Rock is greater than rock.
He is protective and supportive.
He will forever be with us.
He will forever be there for us.
There is no doubt about it. We should build our lives on Him.
